Lioulin Wild Cat: The Flower Named After an Animal It Isn't

From real flowers to abstract art, inspired by nature. We draw on the colors, markings and textures of real flowers, transforming their natural details into abstract patterns designed to be worn.

A real, registered hybrid

Phalaenopsis Lioulin Wild Cat was bred in Taiwan by Huang Gao Ming and registered in 2008 — a cross of Phal. Ho's Fantastic Mirage and Phal. Jiuhbao Red Rose. Its blooms are large, marbled in burgundy and cream, and no two flowers are marked quite the same way: spotted and streaked in a pattern bold enough that growers reached for an animal comparison when it came time to name it.

Where the name actually comes from

Orchid breeders name new hybrids constantly, and the names are rarely scientific — they're descriptive, sometimes playful, chosen because a bloom reminds someone of something else entirely. Lioulin Wild Cat earned its name the same way a lot of pattern orchids do: someone looked at the marbled burgundy-and-cream marking and thought, that looks like a wild cat's coat. The comparison stuck. But comparison is all it ever was. Nothing about the plant is animal — it's a Phalaenopsis hybrid, photosynthesizing in a greenhouse in Taiwan, doing what orchids do.

Why that distinction matters to us

The Lioulin Wild Cat Yoga Leggings and matching Long Sleeve Crop Top carry that marbled pattern onto recycled, made-to-order fabric — printed only after it's ordered.

Some flowers get their name from where they grow. This one got its name from what it looks like. Either way, it's still just a flower. Wear it as one.
